[ARCHIVED] Earth Day / Arbor Day Event fills Government Center today at 5 p.m.

The theme for this year’s event is “Passport to the Planet” Over 40 booths and displays will provide entertainment, education, food and memorable experiences. In the parking area in front of the building will be several electric cars, open for inspection. The front porch will be covered with farmers market vendors with garden-fresh produce.
Vendors will include energy-related businesses, sustainable practices, natural foods, transportation alternatives and more.
A fun, inter-active feature this year is a sustainability tour; a map-guided, self-paced adventure that points out the many cost-saving energy-generating features of the Government Center and the surrounding campus.
The natural beauty of Cedar Hill will be on display at booths hosting Cedar Hill State Park and the Dogwood Canyon Audubon Center, Cedar Hill Parks and Recreation Department, gardeners, naturalists and students who are concerned and motivated about their environment..
Several City departments will help tell the Cedar Hill story about planning to keep up to 20% of Cedar Hill as parks and green space, while developing a sustainable, even walkable, city core. Learn how the City plans for growth, helps keep neighborhoods clean, cares for animals and helps residents conserve resources.
Free trees will be available to residents, while the supply lasts.
