DALLAS, TX, (January 8, 2020) Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas has come together with the City of Cedar Hill, the Cedar Hill Action Team (CHAT), and Cedar Hill Independent School District (CHISD) to form an unprecedented partnership to bring an impactful youth development program to Cedar Hill. The group has collaborated to open Cedar Hill’s first Boys & Girls Club, which opened on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at Permenter Middle School, located at 431 West Parkerville Road in Cedar Hill.

CHAT Boys & Girls Club at Permenter will serve around 50 kids, ages 11-13. Many of these kids will transfer to the Club from CHAT, an organization that currently provides after-school youth education and enrichment programs housed in one of the City of Cedar Hill’s recreational facilities. The remaining Club members will be students of Permenter Middle School.

“We are so thrilled to combine with these great partners to get a safe after-school space and further develop the young people of Cedar Hill,” said Clara McGinnis, CHAT President and Founder. “Because of this consortium, we’ll be able to extend our reach.”

CHAT BGC will be the newest of 22 Clubs with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas (BGCD), which serves about 6,500 Club members yearly in Dallas and Navarro counties through dozens of programs focusing on academic success, healthy lifestyles, and character and leadership development.

“We’ve always wanted to have a presence in Cedar Hill,” said Charles English, BGCD President and CEO. “The stars have finally aligned and all the right players have joined to provide a unique opportunity for the youth in Cedar Hill.”

Boys & Girls Clubs provide academic support such as after-school tutoring and homework help, career development, and college preparation.

“This program reinforces what scholars are already learning in the classroom,” said CHISD Superintendent Dr. Gerald Hudson. “It’s an excellent opportunity for our Longhorns to continue to receive academic support.”

Future plans included opening additional Club sites in the Cedar Hill area.

”As a former longhorn and graduate of Cedar Hill ISD, I know firsthand the importance of school-based programs in developing future leaders,” said Cedar Hill Mayor Stephen Mason. “We’re excited to welcome the Boys & Girls Club to Cedar Hill and look forward to working with them to help develop our young people to be productive, caring, and responsible citizens.”
