Cedar Hill to Participate in the Texas Power Switch Program

When it comes to household expenses, every dollar counts. Since the late 1990s, many Texans have been able to shop around for the best electricity rate in a deregulated market. However, with the amount of research required and number of providers out there, the task can be overwhelming, causing many customers to stay with their current provider.

Cedar Hill City Council recently approved an agreement with Texas Power Switch, a company that does the electricity provider shopping for residents through its group energy switching program, potentially saving them hundreds of dollars annually.

Based out of Austin, Texas, Power Switch harnesses the power of group energy switching to entice electricity providers to offer lower prices in order to gain a large number of customers. Residents sign up to participate for free, then Texas Power Switch hosts an auction three times a year for providers to bid on the group. The lowest bid wins and participating residents can then choose to make the switch to the new provider or not. If they decide to switch, Texas Power Switch helps them by providing contact information to the winning provider. There is no cost or obligation for the City of Cedar Hill or individual residents to sign up or switch.

To date, over 40,000 people have participated and those who switched with the last auction are expected to save an average of $452 per year.  Participants from previous programs are very happy with the program. Renee from Lewisville said “[The process] was easy and straight-forward. I have received my first bill and it is about ½ the cost from my other provider. I’m looking forward to seeing this every month.”

In addition to the financial savings, Texas Power Switch offers 100% renewable energy plans to provide residential customers clean power at no additional cost.

Residents interested in participating can register online at Those who register will receive a personalized offer email and then decide whether to accept the offer or not. If you have any questions, email or call 888-376-2077.

Texas Power Switch has been operating in Texas since 2017, working with cities to offer residents a no-cost, no-obligation way to lower their electricity bills through the power of group buying.

Please note:  Households served by electric cooperatives and municipally owned utilities are unable to participate; however, any household in a deregulated service area is invited to participate.
